EMPOWERING ADULTS THROUGH LITERACY
OUR MISSION
Tri-State Literacy Council is a volunteer organization working to raise the literacy levels of adults.
Do you want to read better? We can help!
We welcome adults of all literacy levels. Whether you are:
- Learning the ABCs
- Learning English as a second language
- Want to obtain your high school equivalency diploma
Adult learners work one-to-one with a volunteer tutor. Tutoring pairs meet at least one hour a week in any public library location. Adult learners can also work toward their goals online.
The books, materials, and services are free.
If you are interested in enrolling in our organization, or would like more information please visit our office to make an appointment. We are located on the third floor of the Cabell County Public Library. You can also call at 304-528-5700 ext. 155, 156 or email at literacy@cabellcountylib.org
Would you like to help individuals in your community? We can help!
Our organization welcomes volunteers who would like to help an adult improve literacy skills as well as numeracy skills. All volunteer tutors take a 12 hour basic literacy training course where they will learn different techniques and strategies to teach adults to read or to read better. Tutors can also volunteer to tutor in math.
Once a tutor completes training they are matched with an adult learner working on a literacy-related goal. Tutors meet with adult learners at least once a week, an hour each time at any of the public libraries.
If you are interested in joining our community, please click on the links below for a complete job description and tutor profile form.
