Horn Book Review
While many fractured fairy tales are pure fun, these six tales have been recast as horror stories, with many of the main characters ending up dead. The grim stories lack imagination, and the creepy full-color illustrations, while including some diversity in the rendering of the protagonists (e.g., a brown-skinned Jack, an Asian Snow White), are merely serviceable. [Review covers the following Scary Tales Retold titles: Cinderella and the Vampire Prince, Goldilocks and the Three Ghosts, Hansel and Gretel and the Haunted Hut, Jack and the Bloody Beanstalk, Little Dead Riding Hood, and Snow White and the Seven Trolls.] (c) Copyright 2017.
